Why do piano lessons and tutoring go together?
Policies & Procedures
Pricing and Payments
Piano Lessons are $80 per month for weekly 30 minute lessons. Monthly payments are to be made the first week of the month. Cash or check is accepted with checks made out to Kristen Mayer. Lesson prices are the same every month. Some months have an extra week so there are 5 lessons, some months there are only 3 because of holidays. Over the course of the year it evens out to 4 lessons a month/48 lessons a year. Holidays include the week of Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and the Fourth of July. Tutoring Sessions are $20 for each individual 30 minute session. Depending on your student's need, arrangements can be made for regular weekly sessions or on an as needed basis. |
Care of Students
Students and parents/legal guardians of minors waive the right to any legal actions for any injury sustained on the property resulting from normal lesson activity or any other activity before, during, or after lesson time. Parents are responsible for caring for students and siblings before and after lesson times. Parents are also responsible for picking up their children promptly after their lesson. Students are not to be left for excessive periods of time before or after the lesson unless a specific exception is approved ahead of time. |
Make Up Lessons
Since vacations and school breaks vary, these dates are not included on the calendar. We will “make up” those dates by either scheduling a longer lesson or an extra lesson. Make up lessons are offered only when they are scheduled ahead of time. No make ups are offered if you call in sick or if you are a no show. I will show you the same courtesy, if I am going to be out of town, I will give you a week notice so we can schedule a make-up in advance. |
Withdrawals
If at any time you wish to discontinue lessons, you may fill out a withdrawal form. Simply not showing up for lessons does not count as withdrawing, a withdrawal form must be filled out ahead of time. No refunds or deductions are made for partial months unless a specific exception is approved in advance. |

Recitals
All piano students are encouraged to participate in a fall and spring recital each year. Each student is to pay a recital fee the week prior to the recital for rental space, program printing and refreshments. The recital itself is free to all guests and photography and videography is welcome. Students may also be offered other performing opportunities or auditions as they come along. |
Junior Music Festival
All piano students are encouraged to participate in the annual Musicale Junior Music Festival each winter. There are several categories including solos, duets, hymns, concertos, and theory tests. A panel of judges will score you based on your performance. As you collect high scores from year to year you can earn a gold cup. |
Materials for Music Lessons
Materials can be purchased at your lesson or from local music stores such as Dunkley or Dorsey. Each student is required to have a a set of books and a notebook to write assignments. Students may be asked to buy additional materials from time to time such as flashcards, a metronome, or special music for performances. Students are encouraged to have a piano in their home. Electric keyboards are acceptable, but not as good. If a student is a beginner between the ages of 6-12, they should purchase the Faber Piano Adventures Series in the Primer Level. There are 4 books: Lesson Book, Theory Book, Performance Book, and Technique Book. All 4 are necessary. If a student is a beginner and is 13 years of age or older, they should purchase the Alfred Basic Adult Piano Course Series Level One. There are 2 books: Lesson Book and Theory Book. Both are necessary. Vocal repertoire varies greatly depending on range and style, so students will not be asked to purchase books until their vocal type has been accurately assessed (usually a few months). Until that time copied music will be provided. |
